Banks and Credit Cards

The three major banks in Malta are HSBC, Bank of Valletta (BOV) and APS. Most banks are open from Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 12:30 and from 8:30 to 12:00 on Saturday and are found all over the island. Some of these banks have additional opening hours throughout the week in the afternoon.
At the Malta International Airport HSBC and BOV Bank Branches and Foreign Exchanges are open for 24 hours inside the Baggage Reclaim Hall (24 hour service) and in the Arrivals Hall, upon exiting customs on the left hand side (24 hour service). Automated money exchange dispensers are also located inside the baggage reclaim hall.
International bank cards such as Access, American Express, Carte Blanche, Diners Club International, Mastercard and Visa are accepted in many hotels, restaurants and shops.
