Travelling around Malta

Being such a small island one can easily explore much of its beauty even if the stay is comparatively short. The public transport network covers almost all the areas of the island while car hire is generally provided at a better rate than many other European destinations. It is important to remember that the Maltese road systems are designed for right hand drive! Taxis are found in plenty around the major places of interest and it is always best to agree on the price of the ride beforehand. The typical Maltese horse-drawn carriage also known as "karrozzin" can also offer a very leisurely ride as you enjoy the beauty of the Maltese coastline or the evocative setting of the historical capital city, Valletta and the quaint silent city of Mdina. More detailed information of places to visit in Malta can be found here.

Weather

Malta's climate is typical of the Mediterranean; sunny and with hot, dry summers, warm and sporadically wet autumns, and short, cool winters with adequate rainfall. The average hours of sunshine during mid-Winter range from 5 -6 hours. Although mild, Winters are generally damp and rainy with occasionally short chilly periods. The average temperatures in February can range from 16 degrees Celsius to 9 degrees Celsius. Although you will certainly never find snow in Malta, you might get periods of strong winds blowing either from the north west or from the north east which can both cause rather unpleasant weather conditions. Hopefully the weather will want to favour us with some beautiful sun, skies and sea though it is best if you can come prepared for both nice and bad winter weather!
